Who are we?

The Stand More at Work (SMART Work) team are world-leading researchers in the field of health implications of sedentary behaviour and occupational health. The team are passionate about creating healthy lifestyles in an environment which predominantly encourages unhealthy behaviours; the workplace.

The SMART Work toolkit is evidence-based and contains information and tools to help create a less sedentary and more active workplace and a healthier place to spend the majority of your waking day.

Dr Fehmidah Munir

Dr Fehmidah Munir

Dr Fehmidah Munir is a Reader in Health Psychology in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences at Loughborough University and is a Chartered Health Psychologist. Fehmidah specialises in the promotion of health and management of ill-health and well-being in occupational and community settings.

"I have 20 years of experience working with small and large businesses, organisations, healthcare and charities to create better healthy working lives for everyone: from innovative ways to support return-to-work to lifestyle interventions in the workplace. These include physical activity, healthy eating behaviours, team working and leadership. My work is underpinned by good science, behaviour change theories and a strong work ethic. I have published around 120 research articles, reports and book chapters on work, health and wellbeing; and presented at national and international academic and professional conferences."

Dr Charlotte Edwardson

Dr Charlotte Edwardson

Dr Charlotte Edwardson is an Associate Professor in Physical Activity, Sedentary Behaviour and Health at the Diabetes Research Centre at the University of Leicester. Charlotte specialises in understanding patterns of physical activity and sedentary behaviour and their relationship to health.

"I have over 10 years of experience in conducting lifestyle research in schools, workplaces, the NHS and the community. I have published over 70 research articles, reports and book chapters on physical activity, sitting and health; presented at national and international academic and professional conferences; and been awarded research grants (totalling >£6 million) from the Medical Research Council, National Institute for Health Research, Department of Health and the European Commission.
